On December 20, the Association of Roskrakhmalpatoka presented the results of the industry for 2019.
The production of modified starches shows steadily high growth rates since 2015. Over the three quarters of 2019, the growth in the production of modified starches was 36% compared to the same period last year.
The Roskrakhmalpatok Association identifies a number of key events of 2019 in the starch and raw materials industry.
In January 2019, the manufacturer of maltodextrin under the brand name MultyDex® KZ Gulkevichsky received the international certificate FSSC 22000. The certificate confirms the presence of a reliable food safety management system at the plant that meets the requirements of Russian and foreign partners. The manufacturer Multydex also won in the nomination “Launch of the Year” of the First Public Award “AGROINVESTOR OF THE YEAR 2019” for the successful commissioning of a modern production line that produces standard and premium specifications of maltodextrin.
Kabardinsky Starch Plant LLC last year commissioned a new workshop for the production of modified starches. And at the beginning of the second quarter of 2020, it is planned to commission a new oil shop.
According to the analysis of the Roskrakhmalpatok Association, the production of native starches for 10 months of 2019 in the Russian Federation amounted to 237,6 thousand tons, which is 4,0% more than for the same period in 2018. More than half of native starches are produced in the Central Federal District (141,1 thousand tons): in the Tula, Tambov, Voronezh, Lipetsk and Oryol regions. In October of this year, prices amounted to 24 rubles per ton. and were higher than in October 037,8 by 2018 rubles per ton. First of all, this is due to rising prices for raw materials - corn.
The volume of production of modified starches for ten months of 2019 in Russia amounted to 41,9 thousand tons, which is 34,2% more than for ten months of 2018.
More than half of the modified starches produced in the Rostov region (21,3 thousand tons). “Such an increase in indicators is due to the fact that in the Ryazan region the enterprise increased the production of modifications by 31,8%. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a non-core company began to manufacture industrial modified starches. In the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, the output of the product increased by 290% compared to the previous year. In the Stavropol Territory, the company has chosen the course towards increasing the production of modifications, reducing the volume of production of sugary starch products, ”commented Oleg Radin, President of the Roskrakhmalpatok Association.
For the reporting period of 2019 in the Russian Federation, the production of starch syrup amounted to 489,1 thousand tons, which is 7,5% more than for the same period last year. Molasses production in Russia is concentrated in the Central Federal District (361,2 thousand tons). Prices amounted to 18 rubles / ton. in October of this year and compared with October 229,71 increased by 2018 rubles / ton.
Dextrin production for the ten months of 2019 in Russia amounted to 6,7 thousand tons, which is 9,4% less than in the same period of 2018. The lion's share of dextrins is produced in the Oryol region (5,4 thousand tons, Zvyaginsky Starch Plant LLC).
In the Russian Federation, the production of fructose and fructose syrup for this period of 2019 amounted to 130,7 thousand tons, which is 11,4% less than in the ten months of last year. Two-thirds of the total Russian production of this sweetener is in the Tula region (96,5 thousand tons). High rates of production of various starch products in this area are associated with the successful work of a major market player - the company “Cargill” LLC.
According to the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation, for three quarters of 2019, 48,7 thousand tons of starch and starch products were imported into Russia in the amount of 52,1 million US dollars. More than half of the imported products are traditionally made up of modified starches (27,4 thousand tons) and corn gluten (11,5 thousand tons). This list also includes native starches: wheat - 1,4 thousand tons, corn - 1,3 thousand tons, potato - 4,0 thousand tons. Starch and its processed products are brought to us, mainly from France, Germany, China, the Netherlands, Italy, the United States and Thailand.
Over the nine months of this year, 17,9 thousand tons of starch and its derivatives in the amount of US $ 9,3 million were exported from the Russian Federation. More than half of the exports are native corn starch - 8,0 thousand tons, and glucose syrup (starch syrup) - 5,7 thousand tons. The share of other products is much smaller. Of these, potato starch - 1,0 thousand tons, modified starch - 1,2 thousand tons.
The main importing countries of Russian starch products are Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.
Among the important market events, it should be noted the continued growth of investor interest in the construction of enterprises for the deep processing of grain. Several such projects are already being implemented, and the possibilities of future construction are being discussed. Grain processing plants can help in realizing the tasks and prospects in the industry, namely diversification of surplus grain into high-margin products; increasing export potential for starch products such as food and industrial modifications, as well as wheat and corn gluten; import substitution (primarily, food modified starches with the index E: E-1404, E-1412, E-1414, E-1422, E-1442).
