BASF SE and StePac Ltd. announced a collaboration to create “the next generation of sustainable packaging” for the fresh fruit and vegetable sector. BASF will provide StePac with Ultramid Ccycled, which is chemically recyclable. The aim of the collaboration is to help StePac develop new packaging formats.
StePac will start developing packaging for fresh, perishable products made from BASF polymers. The company recently received REDcert2 certification, allowing BASF's recyclable polyamide 6 to be included in Xgo and Xtend modified atmosphere flexible packaging. In these types of packages, humidity control is implemented, which slows down respiration, delaying the aging process, and also prevents microbiological degradation, preserving the quality and nutritional value of vegetables and fruits.
According to Upakovano.ru, the first user of the new packaging will be Jardin Exotics SAS, a Colombian exporter of passion fruit.
