After a long period of stagnation, the demand for potatoes in Russia increased slightly, which gave farmers the opportunity to slightly increase selling prices.
But this fact only applies to high quality products. As a result, to date, Russian farms manage to ship these products on average 16% more expensive than at the end of the last working week, analysts of the EastFruit project report.
According to the daily monitoring of the project, at the end of last week, potato prices in the main regions of the Russian Federation started at 6 rubles / kg ($ 0,10 / kg). Today, almost none of the major manufacturers is ready to conclude deals cheaper than 8 rubles / kg ($ 0,13 / kg), and the maximum prices reach 14 rubles / kg ($ 0,22 / kg). They are ready to ship less quality products at prices from 7 rubles / kg ($ 0,11 / kg).

Manufacturers argue for price increases in this segment for several reasons. First of all, the upward price trend is associated with a noticeable reduction in the supply of substandard products, as supplies from non-equipped warehouses fell to a minimum. At the same time, the demand for potatoes continues to increase. Also, it is worth noting that some large farms still restrain the sale of high-quality potatoes in the hope of a further increase in prices.
At the same time, it should be noted that despite the positive price dynamics in the potato segment, at the moment these products in Russia are on average 14% cheaper than at the end of December 2018.
