On February 14, a group of participants in an expedition to Peru, organized by the Potato System magazine with the support of the Potato Union and the POTATOES NEWS portal, visited the experimental station of the National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA), where wild varieties of potatoes are grown and a bank of healthy potato varieties is maintained. In addition to potatoes, legumes, corn and wheat grow here.
During the meeting, the group asked questions about the peculiarities of cultivating potatoes at different altitudes, the work of scientists to create new genetic strains, etc.
The parties agreed on further cooperation, holding joint video meetings, information exchange of data and the possible acquisition of genetic material.
On February 15, a visit to Machu Picchu, the ancient city of the Incas, is planned.
