The event was attended by senior officials of the Iranian Embassy in Moscow, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. The key event of the negotiations was the signing of the Memorandum on the integration of information systems in the field of plant quarantine in Russia and Iran.
The interaction of the programs will simplify and speed up cargo clearance procedures and ensure their traceability.
Digital cooperation will make trade in plant products between countries more transparent, which, according to Sergei Dankvert, is at an extremely high level and is accompanied by the constructive work of the competent departments.
Since 2019, against the backdrop of the sanctions policy of European countries, Iran has seriously increased its presence in the Russian food market, occupying the vacant niches. This year, according to the FSIS "Argus-FITO" for 7 months, the intensification of supplies continued. Iran has become one of the largest exporters to Russia of white cabbage (73 thousand tons), kiwifruit (55 thousand tons), watermelons (36 thousand tons), pepper (34 thousand tons), oranges (17 thousand tons), eggplant (16 thousand tons), apples (13 thousand tons) and many other items.
“I have great respect for the work that Iran, which has been under the most severe sanctions for more than 40 years, has done to develop the agricultural sector and strengthen food safety surveillance systems,” Sergei Dankvert emphasized.
Russia is interested in further increasing the volume of imports from Iran and continuing the supply of various grain crops, vegetable oil, timber and other goods from Russia.
Jahpour Alai Moghadam noted that Iran sees Russia as a reliable partner and is set up not only for trade, but also for scientific and technical cooperation.
“During the work of our mission, we made sure that Russia has one of the most powerful laboratory bases in the world. Rosselkhoznadzor institutions are equipped with high-precision equipment and use advanced research methods,” the Head of IPPO emphasized.
The parties intend to continue mutual working visits to assess surveillance systems, exchange experience and scientific knowledge. This year, a visit to Iran is planned to get acquainted with the control system for pesticides and agrochemicals used in agricultural production.
