According to EastFruit, prices for potatoes and carrots in the countries monitored by the project continued to decline in most cases over the past week. At the same time, Ukraine was an exception, where prices, after falling a week earlier, went up again.
Potato
In Ukraine, at the end of the week, the potato price range was 32-39 cents per kg, closely approaching the prices for these products in Poland (35-45 cents per kg). Moreover, potatoes in Ukrainian are not only twice as expensive as a year earlier, but, at all, have reached record prices for this period at least in the last five years.
Meanwhile, in Russia and the countries of Central Asia, potatoes fell in price against the background of the ongoing harvesting campaign, as a result of which local farmers were forced to lower prices for these products. In particular, the price range in the Russian market fell to 15-26 cents per kg. A similar range was recorded in Uzbekistan, and in neighboring Tajikistan prices were even lower: 11-23 cents per kg.
Carrots
By the end of the week, carrots did not fall in price only in Belarus and Moldova, while in other countries prices continued to decline. The most actively cheaper carrots in Tajikistan, where the average price per week fell by a third. As a result, Tajikistan lost the lead in prices for these products to Georgia and Poland, where at the end of the week average prices were set at 31 cents per kg.
Carrot prices continued to decline in Russia, where these products have been steadily becoming cheaper since the end of June. Meanwhile, the lowest prices for carrots following the results of the outgoing week were recorded in Uzbekistan and Ukraine: 17-23 cents per kg and 20-24 cents per kg, respectively.
