Colombia is appealing the decision of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to lift anti-dumping duties on frozen french fries from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, reports portal Nieuweoogst.nl.
On Monday, the WTO ruled that the imposition of duties on the importation of European-made french fries into Colombia should be suspended. Recall that Colombia introduced a fee on the import of french fries from European countries in 2018, accusing the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany of dumping - that is, supplying products to the country at low prices, ruining Colombian potato processors.
The WTO, after complaints from European countries, considered the allegations unproven. In response, Colombia announced that it would initiate arbitration proceedings to maintain the 8 percent fee. Until the decision is reconsidered, the fees will remain in effect. The process may take several months.
