The press service of the regional governor announced the preliminary results of the past agricultural season. Potato growers in the region, including private farms, grew and harvested 2023 thousand tons of tubers in 192,2.
First Deputy Governor Yuri Umerenko noted that almost half of the harvest was produced by agricultural enterprises and peasant farms. They collected 18,7 thousand tons of tubers more than a year earlier.
In all categories of Vologda farms, the average crop yield was 20,24 t/ha – 7,6% higher than the 2022 level. The organized commercial potato production sector showed a higher figure - 28,5 t/ha. The leaders in yield were the Veliky Ustyug, Tarnog and Vologda municipal districts of the region.
Vologda farmers actively cooperate with leading breeding centers in Russia and Belarus on seed production issues. These include Fat-agro LLC, Federal State Budgetary Institution "Federal Potato Research Center named after A. G. Lorch" and Republican Unitary Enterprise "Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Potato and Fruit and Vegetable Growing."
