The German firm Kaufland has released potatoes with a low carbohydrate content - 30% less than the average for varieties.
The new potato variety Linella was created in collaboration with Kaufland's longtime partner Europlant Plant Breeding. This breeding company has developed a whole line of varieties in which the carbohydrate content is reduced by almost a third.
The potatoes are grown organically by family businesses in Lower Saxony, which are QS-certified.
The new variety has a mild flavor and a waxy texture, making it particularly suitable for salads or roasts.
“Potatoes are an integral part of our diet. Linella is the perfect alternative for customers who want to eat low carb potatoes,” confirms Stefan Lux, Managing Director of Fruit and Vegetable Purchasing at Kaufland.
