This season, Magnit is testing 10 domestic potato varieties on the fields of its farm in the Lipetsk region.
After harvesting and variety testing - assessment of consumer qualities, yields, prospects for industrial cultivation and other parameters - a decision will be made to include new positions in the regular production line of Magnit.
Recall that the company grows tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants and green crops indoors. Vegetables of the “borscht group” (beets and carrots) and potatoes are grown in open ground.
Ilya Gamov, director of agro-industrial production of the Magnit retail chain:
“The Russian seed market remains highly dependent on imports. For example, in the segment of greenhouse tomatoes, the share of foreign seed material reaches 80%. As a major vegetable producer, Magnit is ready to switch to domestic seeds: we are looking for attractive and commercially promising varieties and hybrids and testing them at our agricultural enterprises.”
