Uzbek companies have started buying potatoes from Kyrgyzstan under new contracts. This was announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurbek Murashev.
“Contracts were signed for the supply of 5 thousand tons of potatoes. In addition, about ten companies make purchases directly, without contracts. We create the necessary conditions for them, ”he said.
The cost of potatoes is 5,5-7,5 soms.
At the beginning of 2018, the Minister of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation of the Kyrgyz Republic, Nurbek Murashev, announced that an agreement had been reached on the export of Kyrgyz potatoes and corn to Uzbekistan.
However, in the fall, domestic farmers announced that they had burned out on growing potatoes. In mid-October, resellers exported potatoes from the field at 5-6 soms per kilogram. Farmers said they believed the government's forecasts of high demand from Uzbekistan. According to some reports, Uzbekistan banned the import of Kyrgyz potatoes in the summer.
The issue has been repeatedly discussed in the government and parliament of Kyrgyzstan. Deputies, the Prime Minister and the President sharply criticized the work of the Minister of Agriculture Nurbek Murashev.
