In the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD), 2023 land reclamation projects were subsidized during 37 for a total amount of 241 million rubles. In the new season, local farmers submitted applications for the implementation of another 68 projects worth 469 million rubles.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Elena Fastova, the area of reclaimed land in the district is more than 1 million hectares. Of these, 654 thousand hectares are currently in use.
Last year, some of the subjects of the Far Eastern Federal District refused subsidies in this area in the amount of 420 million rubles. In 2024, applications were again received from the Amur Region and Trans-Baikal Territory to waive part of the funding.
Among the main priorities in the development of the district, the deputy minister noted increasing the level of food self-sufficiency by increasing our own production, including oilseeds, vegetables and milk. Currently, the Far East already grows 42% of the vegetables consumed by its population.
Elena Fastova also added that based on the results of 2023, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture allocated about 11 billion rubles from the federal budget to support the agricultural sector of the Far Eastern Federal District.
