Alexei Krasilnikov, Executive Director of the Potato Union, noted that 432 varieties of red and white potatoes are currently listed in the Russian registry.
According to the expert, they all differ in their technological application: there are those that are suitable for making salads, for frying and for cooking.
It is impossible to choose potatoes by color - varietal varieties are found both among white and red potatoes.
- It would be nice if sellers in stores indicated the variety, then consumers could, for example, read information about it and the content of starch on the Internet and draw conclusions. Such a label would be beneficial for both manufacturers and retail chains, ”the expert explained in a commentary to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
He noted that this practice is often used in European countries. Potatoes are packed in different packages: in green - for salads, in orange - for frying, in red - for cooking.
