In the Tyumen region, the sowing campaign, despite flooding and heavy rainfall in June, was carried out in accordance with the plans. This was announced on June 27 by the deputy governor of the Tyumen region, director of the agro-industrial complex Vladimir Cheymetov.
At a press conference, he said that this year, farmers were able to sow 1,068 million hectares of land. This is 11,6 thousand hectares less than in 2016. The situation was affected by the flood. Due to the high water level, over 30 thousand hectares in Kazan, Ishim, Vikulovsky, Abat districts were unsuitable for work. To minimize losses, reserve lands were used in other municipalities.
There were reasons for joy this year. So, it was possible to increase the area under fodder crops - by 11 thousand hectares. This became possible due to investment projects in the region. The area on which corn is grown has increased. It serves as a good energy feed for livestock.
The potato sowing area this year was slightly lower than last year. Due to the high water level, it decreased by 1%. According to Vladimir Cheymetov, this will not affect the provision of the population of the region with products. “We hope that the potatoes we receive this year will more than provide the population and will be offered outside the region,” concluded Vladimir Cheymetov.
