Agricultural producers in Primorye stocked only 21 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers, which is less than 30% of the required volume.
This product is imported from Siberia at a zero railway tariff. In total, about 70 thousand tons of fertilizers should arrive in the region, but most of them are still on the way due to problems on the railway.
The region's Minister of Agriculture, Andrei Bronts, explained that the Far East was open for the supply of goods to Asian countries. As a result, the railway is overloaded, and fertilizers are sent last. Now the task of local authorities is to “pull” important cargo from the west of Russia, in time for the start of spring field work.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Primorye also reported that in total this year it is planned to sow an area of 495 thousand hectares with agricultural crops. For this purpose, more than 2,6 thousand tractors will go into the fields.
