A team of scientists introduced the chemical substance opabactin, which they plan to use in times of drought. This substance makes plants retain water longer than usual.
Researchers believe that in the near future the problem of drought will become even more urgent than today. Therefore, scientists are actively working to create tools that will allow plants to survive difficult times without noticeable damage. So, employees of the University of Riverside presented the chemical substance opabactin, which retains water inside plants and slows its release from them. This substance works very effectively, but it slows down the growth of plants a little.
The authors of the development report that in the near future the issue of slowing down the growth rate of plants will be resolved. They are sure that they will be able to find a molecule that will accelerate growth.
