The number of pesticides sold on the German market fell to the lowest level in ten years in the last calendar year. Glyphosate Products Among Outsiders
Sales fell by almost 15 percent to 29 tons of active ingredient compared to 583, the German Association of Agricultural Industries (IVA) said, citing official statistics from the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL).
Especially strong was the decline in glyphosate sales. In the group of active substances of organophosphorus herbicides, which also includes glyphosate, statistics show a decrease of 27 percent compared to the previous year.
New BVL data disprove the widespread bias that farmers use more and more pesticides.
The decline is also reflected in the reports of companies in the German plant protection industry, the report said.
IVA Managing Director Martin May explained that weather conditions or changes in pest pressure can cause sales fluctuations from year to year. At the moment, there are no signs of an increasing trend in sales of agrochemical pesticides, May said.
