Increased trading activity is stimulating a rise in prices for high quality carrots in Russian farms, according to EastFruit analysts.
Today, farmers in the main regions of production ship high-quality carrots at 8-15 rubles / kg ($ 0,13-0,23 / kg), which is on average 14% more expensive than at the end of last working week. However, industry experts emphasize that the upward trend in prices is observed exclusively in the high-quality carrot segment, which is purchased for bookmarking in storage. At the same time, products unsuitable for storage, farms offer from 6 rubles / kg ($ 0,09 / kg), and farmers declare their readiness to continue to concede in price for such products.
According to market players, a significant increase in trading activity in the segment of this root crop contributes to price increases. At the same time, most farms suspended sales of high-quality carrots in anticipation of an even higher price increase and laid the bulk of the harvest for storage. For sale, they offer only surplus, as a result of which the offer on the market is currently somewhat limited.
At the same time, it is worth noting that despite the increase in prices, today high-quality carrots in the Russian market still cost on average 13% cheaper than in the same period last year. However, market participants do not exclude that the trend of rising prices may be temporary. According to them, a further rise in price may motivate farmers to start selling carrots from storage, which will lead to an increase in supplies and, as a result, to lower prices.
