The market for white cabbage in Russia has seen a decline in prices this week, according to analysts of the EastFruit project.
Sales remain at a very low level even in those regions where cooling has been recorded over the past few weeks, due to which the demand for other vegetables of the “borsch set” has become somewhat more active.
Under current market conditions, Russian farmers are massively refusing to lay cabbage for long-term storage, fearing that the costs may not pay off once again.
That is why a large supply of cabbage on the market amid the relatively low purchasing activity of wholesale companies now creates significant pressure on prices. Today, many Russian farms are ready to ship large bulk cabbage at a price of 7-13 rubles / kg ($ 0,11-0,21 / kg), which is on average 12% cheaper than at the end of last working week.
Such prices are explained by market operators with a significant increase in the production of these products in Russia this season. At the same time, the sales rate of cabbage remains very low, which does not allow to relieve the market.
It is worth noting that today Russian farmers are forced to sell white cabbage on average 1,5 times cheaper than a year ago. For comparison: in the same period last year, the price of white cabbage in the Russian Federation often reached 26 rubles / kg ($ 0,41 / kg).
