This week, Russian farmers had the opportunity to slightly increase prices for onions, according to analysts at the EastFruit project. As evidenced by the data of the daily monitoring of the project, over the week these products on the Russian market have risen in price by an average of 9%.
However, at the same time, project analysts emphasize that price increases are noted exclusively in the high-quality product segment. Today, farms offer quality onions at a price of 9-15 rubles / kg ($ 0,14-0,23 / kg). According to farmers, they manage to raise prices for these products due to a noticeable increase in demand. At the same time, the supply of quality onions on the market is rather limited, since many farms continue to refrain from selling products from storage facilities.
At the same time, the supply of substandard onions remains quite plentiful. Manufacturers agree to ship it at 6-8 rubles / kg ($ 0,09-0,12 / kg), and they are ready to continue to concede in the price of this product. However, despite this, buyers have little interest in purchasing such products.
We add that at the moment, high-quality onions in the Russian market are on average 18% cheaper than in early November 2018.
