BEER
The Canadian company Establishment Brewing Company has released a beer with the addition of potatoes. The drink was called This Spud's For You.
It is known that when brewing beer, manufacturers often use additives to diversify the taste of the product. Usually corn or rice are used as such ingredients, but this time the brewers chose potatoes.
“We have replaced almost 20% of the barley with potatoes. We got mashed potatoes, then turned the potato starch into sugar. And then sugar
fermented with yeast to produce alcohol", - shared the details of the recipe, the head brewer of the company, Mike Foniok.
It took about six weeks to prepare and ferment this beer series.
Note also that the "potato-flavored" beer was released in support of Canada's largest urban farm, Grow Calgary (a non-profit organization that grows fresh vegetables to provide them to the poor in Calgary).
MILK
Swedish vegan dairy brand Dug has developed the world's first plant-based milk based on potatoes.
The product contains pea protein, maltodextrin, chicory fibers, rapeseed oil and natural flavors. Milk is also fortified with vitamins, including D, B12 and folic acid.
Dug currently offers three flavors: Original, Barista, Unsweetened.
The products are lactose, soy, gluten and nut free, making them stand out from other vegan milks on the market. The product can be used to prepare familiar dairy dishes, baked goods and even create the perfect latte foam.
Dug also calls its product super green compared to its peers. The brand's potato milk has an impressively low carbon footprint, estimated at around 0,27-0,31 kg CO2e/kg. Company representatives stress that the raw material for potato milk requires much less land than the cultivation of oats. And in the process of making the product, 56 times less water is used than in the production of almond milk.
SNACKS IN FUGE STYLE
The Indian company Britannia Industries has released "50-50 Potazos". The new product is positioned as "fusion", it is a thin crispy biscuit with a taste of chips. Ahead of the launch, the brand conducted a nationwide consumer survey. The novelty was appreciated
by residents of the country as the “best new product” in the snack industry, with 90% of survey participants expressing a desire to purchase “50-50 Potazos” in the near future.
Vinay Subramaniam, vice president of the company, noted that the plan is to promote the product as both a biscuit and a savory snack. By the way,
these are the two largest directions in the food market in the country.
