As analysts of the EastFruit project report with reference to market participants, today the demand for cabbage in the Russian market remains at the lowest level among vegetables in the borsch set, which forces farmers to further reduce prices for these products.
So, at the moment, producers declare prices for white cabbage in the range of 7-14 rubles / kg ($ 0,11-0,22 / kg), which is on average 9% cheaper than at the end of last working week. At the same time, market participants admit that lowering prices does not help boost sales in this segment.
It is worth noting that producers are forced to offer cabbage at such low prices in the presence of large volumes of substandard products in the farms. Also, systematic supplies of relatively inexpensive cabbage from the Republic of Dagestan exert pressure on prices. At the same time, trade and procurement activities in this segment remain extremely inactive, which also negatively affects prices.
It is worth adding that today cabbage in Russia is already offered on average 44% cheaper than at the end of November of the previous year. This is due to a general increase in the production of these products in the country. According to key market players, many farmers this year decided to increase the area under cabbage. In addition, in many cases, the quality of cabbage this season has suffered due to adverse weather conditions. Such products are not subject to long-term storage, in connection with which farmers today are forced to sell quite large volumes of substandard products.
