With the TOPPA series, GRIMME introduces a new generation of defoliators with different working widths. Low power requirement, redesigned housing and increased aspiration effect are not the only distinctive features of the machine.
Wide range of options
The TOPPA series is available in various variants, allowing top removal on 2, 4, 6 or 8 rows with front or rear aggregation, or alternatively also as a combination with front-rear linkage. GRIMME offers all international standards for row spacing and track widths for this purpose, taking into account the different contours of the ridges for ridge or ridge cultivation.
2- and 4-row version for individual use
TOPPA 200 and TOPPA 400 are two-row and four-row defoliators that are suitable for both front and rear mounting on a tractor.
By optimizing the position of the gearbox, the angle of inclination of the cardan shaft to the tractor has been significantly reduced. This significantly reduces wear on the cardan shafts, especially when lifting the topper at the end of the headlands.
Another new feature is that the 4-row machine with a row spacing of 90 cm is now also equipped with a continuous defoliator shaft and therefore does not require a central support. Large maintenance covers across the entire width of the housing make cleaning and replacing the whips easy.
6- and 8-row variant as front-rear combination
The 6-row front-rear combination consists of a TOPPA 200 at the front of the tractor and a TOPPA 600 Combi at the rear. The TOPPA 600 Combi is hydraulically folded so that topping is removed on two rows on both sides of the tractor. For quick field changes, the machine can be hydraulically folded to a transport width of 3 m.
In the 8-row front-rear combination, TOPPA 400 in the front linkage is combined with TOPPA 800 Combi in the rear linkage. Here, both brackets are also folded hydraulically, allowing removal of tops in two rows. The road transport width of the TOPPA 400 defoliator is 3,29 m with a row spacing of 75 cm.
On both the TOPPA 600 Combi and the TOPPA 800 Combi, each bracket can be controlled separately from each other via a control unit or, optionally, via ISOBUS with AUX-N function layout. In combination with standard cardan shafts with a large operating angle, this makes it possible to lift the defoliators independently of each other in wedge-shaped areas of the field. In addition, both bodies have an oscillating suspension, allowing them to adapt perfectly to uneven ground conditions. Hydraulic lateral shift with manual control or, at the highest level of configuration, with fully automatic adaptation to ridges is also available as an option. This is especially true if the number of rows of the planting machine does not match the number of rows of toppers.
8-row version for single use
With the TOPPA 800, GRIMME offers an 8-row rear-mounted defoliator that can be hydraulically folded to an external width of 3 m for road transport. The machine is especially suitable for farms with 8-row planting technology and for tractors without a front power take-off shaft.
Perfection down to the smallest detail
The TOPPA series still uses the typical GRIMME brushes, adapted to the ridge topography, ensuring a uniform and clean top removal result. The optimized position of the lashes corresponds to the trend towards increasing comb volume. In addition to other types of beaters, shear plates can be installed to ensure optimal chopping of the tops. They are completely enclosed and, in the event of wear, can be positioned closer to the defoliator shaft to ensure consistent performance. In combination with the new extended top guide plates, the placement of potato tops between the ridges is significantly improved. This has advantages, for example, during subsequent chemical drying, as it ensures good wetting of the stems.
RidgeRunner wheels prevent tubers from turning green
As an option for each row, you can select RidgeRunner wheels with bearing support on both sides, which roll the top of the ridge after defoliation. The individual suspension allows optimal adaptation to each row. Due to the extremely low air pressure in the tires, the wheels are crushed and thus contribute to the sealing of cracks in the ridges. Thanks to this, the potatoes are protected from direct sunlight, which reduces the proportion of green tubers in the potato ridge. In addition, the crushability ensures that the wheels are self-cleaning.
Optimal working height
The height of the topper is controlled using the tractor's three-point hydraulics and support wheels of size 175 R14. The height of the support wheels is adjusted mechanically using a spindle or hydraulically from the cabin. The set working height can be easily and conveniently read and checked on the scale.
Longitudinal transport carrier for TOPPA 400
For transport on roads with an external width of less than 3 meters, a new load-bearing longitudinal transport device has been developed for 4-row defoliators. For this purpose, the TOPPA 400 is equipped with an additional three-point mounting support on the outer left side in the direction of travel. Thanks to this, the machine can be installed in transport position in a few minutes and moved at an unlimited transport speed.
