The head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert believes that it is futile and uneconomical to spend time and effort on opening European markets for Russian agricultural products. Efforts should be directed to the markets of Southeast Asia, he is convinced.
“We have spent a lot of our efforts on opening European markets for quite a long time. Today it is clear that this is unpromising and uneconomical from a business point of view, "he said on the air of the Russia 24 channel (VGTRK) on Wednesday.
According to him, this is connected, inter alia, with those conditions that were created within the WTO. Moreover, the countries-creators of the WTO are experiencing such difficulties, he said.
“I think that our task is those markets that are developing dynamically and with which we can find a common language. And these markets are the countries of Southeast Asia, ”he said.
Dankvert recalled that African swine fever is currently spreading in the countries of Southeast Asia, which provides additional opportunities for the supply of Russian products there. “Fourteen countries (in the region) are suffering serious losses (in pig production), primarily China,” he said. “I want to remind you that thanks to the efforts of our government, we have had African plague for 12 years, but we have increased pork production 2,5 times, and China has lost 40% of its livestock in one year.”
Speaking about the effectiveness of the electronic veterinary certification system, Dankvert said that it allowed to whitewash the market, including for dairy products. In particular, the share of counterfeit products decreased by 4 pp. and is 17,5%. Product safety has improved. “Today we can clearly see which factories have dropped out of circulation, have identified about 280 factories that did not exist, but supplied products. These products were safe, they were tested, but they did not pay taxes, ”he said. "The labeling will make them illegal."
The head of the Rosselkhoznadzor also said that the integration of the electronic veterinary certification system with the labeling of products, primarily dairy products, is being prepared. “We made the first half (traceability) and we see what raw materials are made from. Many questions arise. For example, the enterprise does not receive raw materials, but there are products, ”he said. And this applies not only to dairy products, but also to other products.
