The National Research Technological University MISiS has proposed to turn the harmful weed hogweed for good and use it in batteries, Izvestia reports.
This is not just a rationalization proposal, but already proven technology. Scientists drew attention to the fibrous substances of hogweed stems, which can be used to make electrodes. After conducting experiments, the MISiS employees showed that harmful weed processed using a certain technology can successfully replace traditional sources, while the battery quality remains at its best.
Activated carbons with a highly developed surface act as the electrode material. Russian scientists have suggested that optimal electrode properties can be found in hogweed stems, consisting of a hard bark and soft inner core that looks like a sponge that forms a diverse porous structure. This design is effective for using carbon material as the basis for the drive.
Their colleagues from St. Petersburg appreciated this approach, because the use of plant waste for the manufacture of active carbon is a global trend, therefore, the work of scientists is promising and deserves interest. Hundreds of millions of rubles are spent on the fight against cow parsnip, while you can earn great money on it, scientists add.
