To date, more than 46% of the area under vegetable crops and more than 42% of potato plantings have already been harvested.”
According to official data from the Don Ministry of Agriculture and Food, agricultural enterprises and peasant farms planted potatoes on an area of almost 6,7 thousand hectares. “In general, the Rostov region ranks fifth in Russia in terms of vegetable production,” Viktor Goncharov emphasized. - Industrial vegetable growing in the Rostov region is concentrated in 12 municipal districts of the Southern, Azov and Central irrigated zones. More than 100 agricultural organizations are engaged in growing open ground vegetables. One of these is the leading vegetable-growing enterprise LLC "Istok-1" of the Semikarakorsky district, where potatoes and carrots are being harvested. Since 2007, irrigation has been introduced on the farm, which has tripled the yield on the fields. In addition, on the basis of the economy, they are engaged in the production of seed potatoes, which is especially important for the development of import substitution.”
