Canadian company Lallemand has secured registration of its LALGUARD JAVA WP bioinsecticide in Brazil. Sales of the drug are projected to begin in the first half of 2023. portal Revistacultivar.com.br. The new product is recommended for use on any crop infested with the tobacco whitefly Bemisia tabaci (race B).
According to toxicological parameters, the biopesticide belongs to the fifth hazard class - "low-hazard product". In terms of potential environmental hazard, the bioinsecticide belongs to the fourth class (non-hazardous to the environment).
Entomopathogenic fungi Cordyceps javanica are one of the main natural enemies of the whitefly and penetrate directly into the insect. A new technology developed in collaboration with a Brazilian research and development company (Embrapa) aims to reduce the use of agrochemicals.
According to Lallemand agronomic manager Clayton Oliveira, the main difference of Lalguard Java product is its higher resistance to heat and low humidity.
“We have conducted several field trials in different regions in order to verify the effectiveness of the product. In the course of research, we paid attention to the resistance of the product to high ambient temperatures. Also, our field tests have confirmed the effectiveness of the product at relatively low humidity,” the specialist noted.
