The authorities of Buryatia proposed to increase the amount of compensation for the construction of vegetable stores from 20% to 50%. This was announced to journalists by the chairman of the republican People's Khural (parliament) Vladimir Pavlov, writes TASS.
“We can produce more vegetables and potatoes in order to provide the republic with almost 100%, but we need support. The current resolution (of the Government of the Russian Federation of November 24, 2018 N 1413) compensates only 20% of the costs for the construction of vegetable stores. We offered 50%,” Pavlov said.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Buryatia, Galsan Dareev, farmers have the opportunity to increase the production of potatoes and vegetables, but the region is limited by storage capacity, which currently has a capacity of 33,6 thousand tons, with a minimum demand of 60 thousand tons.
“Here we hit the ceiling,” Dareev said at an expanded meeting of the Federation Council committee on agrarian food policy and environmental management. “As a result, stocks run out by March next year, and the deficit is made up by imports from other regions, which leads to an increase in product prices by 25% due to transportation costs, and so on until the new harvest, that is, from March to August.”
In the event of an increase in the capacity of vegetable stores, agricultural producers of the region are ready to increase the production of vegetables grown on open ground by 2,5 times, and potatoes - by two times.
