The authorities of the Leningrad Region plan to increase the production of potatoes and vegetables by 3% in 2023. This was announced by the governor of the region Alexander Drozdenko at a meeting of the headquarters for preparation for seasonal field work.
As the press service of the government of the Leningrad region reported on March 24, in 2022, the region's farmers achieved record harvests. Last year they grew 194,2 thousand tons of potatoes and 180,7 thousand tons of vegetables.
“The President has given us the task of ensuring the doctrine of food security. We need to increase the production of potatoes and vegetables by at least 3%,” Drozdenko said at the meeting.
According to the governor, this year 1,7 billion rubles are allocated to support crop production programs in the Leningrad Region. This is 13,3% more than a year earlier. The sown area in the region will be increased by 4,4 thousand hectares and will amount to 219 thousand hectares by the beginning of the season. The readiness of agricultural machinery for the sowing campaign now exceeds 90%. Agricultural enterprises have prepared the necessary fuels and lubricants, spare parts, seeds and fertilizers. Thus, the needs for seeds of grain crops are provided by 136%, potatoes - by 185%, and perennial grasses - by 113%.
