Potato harvesting is in full swing at farms in the region. At the beginning of the season, farmers expected to reap a rich harvest, but the weather disrupted their plans. In the summer, a severe drought was recorded in the Novosibirsk region, due to which local authorities declared a state of emergency. As a result, the yield is almost two times lower than the 2022 level.
In the second half of September, the tops of the fields in the region are as green as in mid-July. To carry out harvesting work, you have to use a special topper, and only then a potato harvester. Because of this, fuel costs double.
They plan to finish harvesting crops in the region in early October. At the height of the harvest season, nature pleases farmers with fine days, giving them the opportunity to dig up all the potatoes before the onset of cold weather.
Farmers and agricultural enterprises sort the harvested crops, dry them and send them to warehouses to begin selling closer to winter. According to the forecasts of Novosibirsk potato growers, the price should be at least 30% higher than last year.
