In Russia this week, for the first time since the beginning of spring, an increase in prices for potatoes was recorded, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. According to market operators, such trends are caused by a further reduction in the supply of high quality products. In addition, most farmers do report the end of the selling season.
So, since last week, potatoes in Russia rose by an average of 12%. Today, Russian farmers are voicing the price of these products in the range of 9-16 rubles / kg ($ 0,14-0,25 / kg). The main reason for the increase in interest in procurement, according to experts, was a general reduction in the supply of potatoes in local farms. At the same time, the main reduction in supplies was noted by those producers who do not have equipped storage facilities, and in fact, the last shipments of potatoes were carried out in early spring.
In addition, a limited supply of high-quality products also supports prices. So, this week more and more messages are received from wholesale companies about the lack of supply of high-quality potatoes in farms. Farmers, in turn, explain the current situation with adverse weather conditions during the harvesting period: long rains negatively affected not only the marketability of the potato, but also its keeping quality.
It should be added that at the moment the price of potatoes in Russia is on average already a third lower than in the first half of April 2018. Recall that a year earlier, Russian farmers shipped high-quality potatoes from 16 to 22 rubles / kg, depending on the region of shipment, variety and quality.
