In Uzbekistan, before January 1, 2019, the import of potatoes is exempted from customs duties, reports Details.uz February 21, citing a decree of the president of the republic, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It is noted that this measure is aimed at eliminating the shortage of potatoes in the domestic market, as well as containing prices.
The head of the republic instructed the state customs committee to ensure timely and unhindered customs clearance of imported potatoes.
Potato importers are exempted from customs duties, with the exception of clearance fees.
Note that in Uzbekistan there remains a shortage of potatoes, which intensifies in the winter. A significant part of this product comes from Russia. However, import does not allow a radical change in the situation - by the New Year, the cost of one kilogram of potato doubles.
As REGNUM reported earlier, in February 2017, Russian Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachev arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit. In the course of the negotiations, he noted that the Russian Federation is interested in increasing exports of potatoes and other agricultural products to the republic.
In addition, as a result of the visit, an agreement was signed on the creation of a joint breeding and seed production center for growing potatoes in Uzbekistan.
