Agricultural organizations of Transbaikalia have entered the active phase of planting potatoes, said the head of the regional Ministry of Agriculture Denis Bochkarev (reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia).
“Today, four farms in the Chita and two agricultural enterprises in the Uletovsky districts have begun planting potatoes. The work was carried out on an area of 172 hectares, which is 22% of the plan. A year ago, on this date, the farmers of the region planted 123 hectares of potatoes. Our agricultural producers intend to get their first harvest in July,” the minister said.
He noted that the total potato sown area in Transbaikalia will be 783 hectares - at the level of last year.
“Today it is important for us to increase the production of our own vegetables and potatoes, to increase the volume of these crops in order to block imports and provide ourselves with agricultural products,” Denis Bochkarev explained.
At the end of 2021, the potato harvest in agro-industrial enterprises and peasant (farm) farms in Transbaikalia amounted to almost 10 thousand tons, despite difficult weather conditions and heavy rainfall.
