According to the work plan for the preparation and conduct of spring field work in 2020, posted on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Belarus, early spring and grain crops this year will occupy 779,4 thousand hectares, including 350 thousand hectares of legumes. Corn for grain should be sown on 241,7 thousand hectares, buckwheat - 11,8 thousand hectares, millet - 8,2 thousand hectares, spring rape - 47,2 thousand hectares, fiber flax - 49 thousand hectares , sugar beet - 91,5 thousand hectares, potatoes - 21,7 thousand hectares, vegetables - 4,5 thousand hectares, corn for silage - 821 thousand hectares, annual grasses - 252,2 thousand hectares.
The total area of spring sowing compared to the plan of last year decreased by 3%, including early spring and grain crops - by 12%. The area under other crops has also changed somewhat: increased for corn for grain and silage, spring rapeseed, millet, reduced for annual grasses, buckwheat, sugar beets, potatoes and vegetables.
According to the work plan, grain production in 2020 in agricultural organizations and farms is planned in the amount of 8,1 million tons, including 6,5 million tons of fodder. It is planned to produce 1,1 million tons of potatoes, 5 million tons of sugar beets, 180 thousand tons of flax-straws, 623 thousand tons of oilseeds of rape, 622,4 thousand tons of vegetables, and 170 thousand tons of fruits and berries.
In 2019, Belarus, according to Belstat, produced 7,3 million tons in all categories of farms (in weight after refinement), which is 19,2% more than in 2018. Potatoes in farms of all categories in 2019 accumulated 6,1 million tons (an increase of 4,1%). Gross harvest of sugar beets amounted to 4,9 million tons (an increase of 2,5%). Flax fiber produced 46,2 thousand tons (15% more than in 2018). 1,9 million tons of vegetables were harvested (an increase of 6,2%).
