“In recent years, the agro-industrial complex, including through an increase in government support, has shown steady growth, is one of the drivers of the domestic economy and plays a significant role in ensuring sustainable socio-economic development of the Russian Federation. This year, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia expects the continued positive dynamics in the industry, ”the message says.
In particular, according to representatives of the ministry, in 2020, it is expected to increase the acreage of major crops, including corn for grain - up to 2,7 million hectares (in 2019 - 2,6 million hectares), rice - up to 197,4 thousand ha (in 2019 - 194 thousand ha), buckwheat - up to 858,2 thousand ha (in 2019 - 806,6 thousand ha). Potatoes will be placed on an area of 1329,1 thousand hectares, which is 51,2 thousand hectares more than last year. It is expected that 527,2 thousand hectares will be sown with vegetables (in 2019 - 517,3 thousand hectares). Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture is working on adjusting the structure of sown areas for potatoes and vegetables to increase their production.
According to the forecast of the ministry, the total sown area will be 80,3 million hectares, which is 0,8 million more than in 2019. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of May 26, 2020, in the whole country, spring sowing was carried out on an area of 43 million hectares, or 83% of the projected area. The general pace of work is currently higher than last year.
