According to RIA Novosti, the Minister of Environmental Protection of the Czech Republic, Richard Brabets, called the unfolding climate situation a disaster for the entire economy.
According to him, moisture is now only 40 percent of the norm, in some areas even less. Since the fall, there has been virtually no rain. Snow accumulated over the winter only at the very tops of the mountains.
Already in March, rural workers realized that the situation was not in favor of the harvest. The situation is aggravated by the high temperature not typical for this latitude. “For a long time, the Czech Republic has established a temperature that was 20 years ago much further south, for example, in Croatia,” the official said.
The ministry is powerless against nature, so they are trying to rectify the situation at the expense of people: in some areas, they began to limit the supply of water to the population. Thus, for residents of small towns and villages in South Moravia, a water limit was set - 100 liters per day per person. Now it is impossible to water the garden and vegetable garden with piped water here. They also banned the use of swimming pools.
At Brno University, scientists joined in solving the problem; they developed devices for using drainage systems to keep water in dry soil. The construction of special canals for supplying water to fields from rivers began. But in the rivers, and so, the water is half as usual: in the Labe in some places - only one and a half meters. On the Vltava and Morava, which are shipping routes to Germany, loaded ships almost no longer pass.
The Czech government is convening a regular meeting at which it will seek a way out.
