As part of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Agriculture in 2022, 4 new varieties of potatoes were registered in the Moscow region, according to the website Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Moscow Region.
“A lot of work is underway to create a seed fund of domestic potato varieties. During the period of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program, breeders near Moscow have bred 11 varieties of potatoes. Including only for this year 4 new ones. Now our farmers can use varieties that are fully adapted to the climatic conditions of the region. This will significantly reduce dependence on foreign seed material,” said Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Moscow Region Georgy Filimonov, who is in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
Potato varieties were bred by enterprises participating in the Federal Scientific and Technical Program: Ozery JSC, FH SeDek LLC, Doka-Gene Technologies LLC.
In total, 2022 thousand tons of potato seeds were produced in the region in 45, which is 36% more than in the previous year.
Today in the Moscow region there are 7 meristem laboratories for the production of potato microplants, which this year alone produced 2,5 million mini-potato tubers, which accounted for 25% of the total volume of the Russian market, as well as 45 thousand tons of potato seeds of higher reproductions - 23% market and 450 thousand pieces. in vitro potato microplants.
Four research institutes in the field of seed production operate on the territory of the Moscow Region: Lorch Federal Potato Research Center, Nemchinovka Federal Research Center, Williams All-Russian Feed Institute, Federal Research Center for Vegetable Growing .
