This year less potatoes are planted in Chuvashia than last year - there are no seeds left in the storages. However, the republic, in spite of everything, must maintain the status of the region where the highest quality potatoes are grown - Mikhail Ignatyev set this task before the Ministry of Agriculture at a meeting in the Government House before he left for the St. Petersburg Forum.

“Ours are now leaving the market, other regions will occupy this market,” the Head of the Chuvash Republic Mikhail Ignatiev outlined the unsightly situation. “And we, as a potato region, will no longer enter this market. This will lead to inflation, and then we will also allocate additional subsidies. There are seeds, there are storage facilities. We must do this.
- Compared to other regions, - a decrease. 2 times less, - reported the Minister of Agriculture of Chuvashia Sergey Artamonov. Taking into account that the price is favorable today, potatoes can be sold for 24-26 rubles. Unfortunately, after the New Year, all potatoes were sold for 10-12 rubles. Last year at this time, we all remember, potatoes cost 2-4 rubles. And they couldn't sell it to anyone, so they sold it out this winter. Now there are no potatoes, but the culture is interesting, so now we are talking with everyone, trying to increase the area. I hope we will surpass the plan.
Now in the region, potatoes were planted on 6 and a half thousand hectares. This is almost 80 percent of the plan. Moreover, about 40 percent were planted on the territory of Batyrevsky and Komsomolsky districts. Meanwhile, the republic is nearing the end of sowing spring, grain and leguminous plants. Work has been completed in 11 districts of Chuvashia - 200 thousand hectares are sown, this is 97% of the plan. Due to inclement weather, farmers report a four-day lag behind the schedule. In addition, this year the republic relies on more profitable industrial crops: we have doubled the area under rape and mustard.
