At the annual meeting of the Canadian Union of Private Potato Producers CPPBN, held on March 4 and 5, 2020 in Guelf, Ontario, the group elected Andre Gagnon as president for a two-year term.
“André has been an active private potato breeder for the past 14 years and has produced several varieties, most notably Alliston, which has proven to be outstanding in Ontario,” says Dr Peter Vander Zaag, CPPBN Secretary.
Andre is a partner and director of research in Quebec for the production of SEMBEC (ProgesT2001 is the research and development department of the company).
Dr. Vander Zaag says the union appreciates and thanks Joel Vandershaaf of Tuberosum Technologies Inc for his leadership as president of CPPBN over the past 2 years.
Dr. Robert Coffin was re-elected Vice President for another 2 years.
The CPPBN is an alliance of private potato growers from across Canada who share expertise and genetic material among themselves and work with many government agencies on an individual basis.
“CPPBN members have produced numerous varieties grown in North America and are being evaluated in many other countries in the Southern Hemisphere as well as in Asia,” says Dr. Vander Zaag.
