Reducing the carbon footprint has become a key goal of many modern companies, including agricultural ones. Thus, the British firm Puffin Produce has proved that it is possible to grow potatoes, reducing carbon dioxide emissions to zero at all stages of work.
The company measured the carbon footprint of potatoes - from the energy used on the farm to the vehicles used to transport crops to supermarkets - and made the necessary adjustments. Puffin Produce CEO Hugh Thomas emphasized: “We have taken advantage of the best scientific advice from organizations to help us measure, reduce emissions and certify our production. We hope that Root Zero will be the first of many zero carbon products, responsibly grown and packaged in a sustainable manner, that will begin to overcome the food industry's huge impact on climate change. ”
Root Zero-branded potatoes have been launched in 200 stores across the UK.
