Agricultural land area: 2,7 million ha
The Nizhny Novgorod region is traditionally one of the ten (and more often, the top five) of the Russian regions-leaders in potato production. We already wrote about its successes in this area in 2016, but over the past years, Nizhny Novgorod potato growers have achieved new noticeable results.
2019 Achievements
In 2019, agricultural organizations and farms in the region allocated 14,7 thousand ha for potatoes. At the end of the season, about 500 thousand tons of potatoes were harvested (excluding private household plots), which is 11% higher than the level of 2018. The Nizhny Novgorod region took third place in terms of gross harvest of potatoes in Russia.
Seed potato production
In the Nizhny Novgorod Region, seven farms produce seeds of high potato reproductions. Potato microclonal propagation is carried out by LLC Latkin (Arzamassky district), LLC Elitkhoz (Borsky district), LLC Axentis (Gorodetsky district), as well as a branch of FSBI Rosselkhoztsentr in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Each enterprise contributes to the development of this area in the region.
Thus, in 2020, a branch of the FSBI Rosselkhoztsentr in the Nizhny Novgorod Region implemented a project for growing potato minitubers in heated greenhouses in 20: it commissioned greenhouses for growing potato micro-plants, equipped with special equipment for round-the-clock maintenance of optimal temperature and humidity, which makes it possible to carry out work not only in the warm season, but also at freezing temperatures. At the end of March, about 000 plants were planted in two greenhouses.
Also this year, the Nizhny Novgorod Rosselkhoztsentr successfully launched the innovative production of potato minitubers in vitro on the basis of the Bolshemurashkinsky district department.
The construction of the greenhouse complex for the production of minicubers of potatoes in the Gorodetsky district (LLC "Akentis") is ongoing, it is one of the largest investment projects in the field of agriculture in our region.
In general, a significant amount of high-quality seed potatoes is produced in the region, which allows satisfying the needs of local agricultural producers and delivering products outside the region.
The most popular potato varieties in the region are Gala, Red Scarlett, Colomba, Vineta, Breeze, Innovator.
Reclamation of
One of the most important factors in ensuring the reproduction of soil fertility is irrigation and drainage reclamation.
The region has developed a state program "Development of the agro-industrial complex of the Nizhny Novgorod Region", approved by Decree of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region dated April 28, 2014 No. 280, which includes the Subprogram "Development of Land Reclamation of Agricultural Land of the Nizhny Novgorod Region" until 2020.
During the program (from 2016 to 2019), 7167,7 hectares of irrigated agricultural land were commissioned in the region (due to new construction and reconstruction of reclamation systems).
In 2019, according to an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia in the Nizhny Novgorod region, it was necessary to commission 1755,4 hectares of reclaimed land, but the plan was fulfilled by 101%: irrigation equipment was installed on 1779,02 hectares. Irrigation projects were launched in Arzamas, Shatkovsky, Sergach, Vorotynsky and Sharangsky municipal districts.
For the implementation of the program in 2019, 25 923,2 thousand rubles were allocated from the federal budget, and 79 949 thousand rubles from the regional budget.
In 2020, the region will have to carry out reclamation work on an area of 1641 hectares.
Basically, irrigation equipment in the region is used for irrigation of potatoes (in Arzamassky, Shatkovsky and Gorodetsky districts), vegetables (in Shatkovsky, Krasnobakovsky districts), gardens (in Sergachsky, Vorotynsky and Sharangsky districts).
Land reclamation significantly increases the utilization rate of mineral fertilizers. The productivity of potatoes in irrigation increases from 257 kg / ha (the average result in the region) to 500 kg / ha, carrots - up to 583 kg / ha. Due to this, the cost of production is also reduced.
The region is faced with the task of further developing land reclamation. This is a guaranteed way to increase production volumes of any types of crops.
Export
Nizhny Novgorod agricultural producers export potatoes to the Republic of Moldova.
In 2019, more than 5 thousand tons of ware potatoes worth about 50 million rubles were sent to this country. The main exporters are Agrofirm Rus, TNV Mir Yashchenko and Company, Belorechye CJSC, Vetluga Agricultural Complex.
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Nizhny Novgorod Region provides support to agricultural enterprises in the region in organizing export activities and expects that this direction will develop: supply volumes will grow, and geography will expand.
Potato processing
Potato processing is a promising industry for the Nizhny Novgorod region, given the volume of production. Unfortunately, at the moment there are few enterprises specializing in potato products in the region: the production of potato starch (Syryatinsky Starch Plant) has been launched, there are workshops for the production of vacuum-cleaned potatoes (LLC Latkin, LLC Echo and other). We hope that potential investors will appreciate the potential of the region, and this list will be significantly larger.
