The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation expects that the harvest of grain, potatoes and sugar beets in Russia this year will decrease compared to last year's figures, TASS reports citing the press service of the department.
The reason for this forecast was adverse weather conditions in all federal districts, due to which spring field work was postponed to a later date. In this regard, crop ripening and harvesting will also occur later.
At the same time, the department noted that in most of the Asian territory of Russia, mostly satisfactory agrometeorological conditions are expected to complete sowing work, growth and development of most crops.
According to the ministry, the forecast will be updated based on the results of spring sowing and the beginning of harvesting.
In 2016, the gross harvest of grain and leguminous crops in Russian farms of all categories amounted to 120,7 million tons, which was a record.
