Governor of the Novgorod region Andrey Nikitin said that the region intends to expand cooperation with Belarus and increase trade.
The head of the region, who was on a visit to Belarus on July 4-5, noted that since 2019, the trade turnover between this country and the Novgorod region has grown by 200%, and according to current results, it is already clear that in 2023 last year's indicators will be improved. The partnership is developing in many areas, including potato production. According to Nikitin, there has been an exchange of breeding varieties and work with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for a long time. A new vector in cooperation will be set by the supply of Belarusian-made French fries to the region, and the product will also be made using Russian raw materials.
“But here's what's interesting: it turned out that there is a shortage of french fries. And this deficit will be solved by the Belarusian Tolochin cannery, which was built quite recently. […] And there was not enough potatoes. Therefore, we will supply our potatoes there too, in order to provide Belarus and Russia and those people who love this fast food with delicious french fries,” the governor said.
