According to the daily monitoring of the EastFruit project, the price of onion in Russia has already reached a record high for at least the last 5 years and continues to grow rapidly.
So, since the beginning of this week, onions in Russian households rose by an average of 30%. Today, farmers offer quality onions at 30-40 rubles / kg ($ 0,46-0,61 / kg), while a week ago the price of quality products did not exceed 32 rubles / kg ($ 0,49 / kg).
The experts of the project call the reason for such a price increase a rather high demand for onions in the domestic market, and more and more often complaints from the market participants about the insufficient supply of high-quality products.
Wholesale companies are trying to compensate for the shortage of quality products by importing new onion from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Better, but at the same time more expensive imported onions are still offered in Russia in limited quantities at a price of 38-43 rubles / kg ($ 0,58-0,66 / kg).
It should be noted that today onion prices in Russia are on average 3 times higher than at the beginning of May 2018, and are a record for the last 5 years. At the same time, market participants do not exclude that the tendency to increase the price of these products will continue, and the growth rate of onion prices will continue to accelerate as stocks in farm storage continue to decrease.
