According to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, in 2020 the area of the main agricultural crops used for the production of cereals, including corn for grain, will increase to 2,7 million hectares (in 2019 - 2,6 million hectares), and rice to 197,4 thousand ha (in 2019 - 194 thousand ha), buckwheat - up to 858,2 thousand ha (in 2019 - 806,6 thousand ha), oats - up to 2,62 million ha (in 2019 - 2,61 million ha).
“This will allow us to lay a good raw material base for the further development of the domestic flour and cereal industry and increase the level of self-sufficiency of the main types of cereals. In general, this year we expect that the cultivated area in Russia will grow to 80,3 million hectares. Together with the expansion of the use of modern production technologies, the increase in the volume of mineral fertilizers, the use of scientifically based crop rotation, highly productive seeds and other measures, this is predicted to help maintain positive dynamics in crop production and a stable price situation on the food market, ”noted First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Dzhambulat Khatuov.
The final assessment of the crop this year will be given after the completion of sowing work. Its adjustment will be carried out depending on the prevailing agrometeorological conditions.
