Since Thursday, the government of Chuvashia has introduced an emergency regime in the republic due to overmoistening of the soil, according to preliminary data, the damage from the death of the crop may amount to 500 million rubles.
“The reason was the situation on the territory of the republic in connection with a dangerous natural phenomenon - waterlogging of the soil during the growing season of agricultural crops. The high moisture content in the soil disrupts the processes of plant growth and development, complicates field work, procurement of fodder, causes a decrease and death of the crop, "the regional government noted, adding that" the emergency regime is established until further notice. "
The authorities of Chuvashia also noted that in some areas the moisture reserve in the soil exceeds the standard values by 4-5 times.
Due to the low temperature and heavy rainfall, sowing of spring crops in the republic began two weeks later and ended by mid-June. Long rains in June and the first half of July prevent the harvesting of feed.
Estimated loss of grain yield in Chuvashia may amount to 20-25 thousand tons, potatoes - 30-35 thousand tons. The damage, according to preliminary data, may amount to about 500 million rubles.
Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachev said last week that unfavorable weather had pushed the harvest time forward in Russia by two weeks, but the loss of crops was minimal.
