This is the first time that CBS has officially published acreage data for red seed onions compared to standard yellow.
Dutch onion growers planted red onion varieties on 4 hectares last spring, with a total onion planting area of 857 hectares.
This year, the total area under onion cultivation is 27 hectares. And the area of onion sets is 318 hectares. This is 8 hectares less than in 760. Of the sown areas of onion sets, 430 ha falls in the second year. Most often in the Netherlands, yellow onions are grown.
