Eight districts of the Republic of Uzbekistan located at a remote distance from each other will specialize in growing seed potatoes.
This was announced during a video conference held under the chairmanship of President Shavkat Mirziyayev on April 14. The videoconference was dedicated to the further development of agricultural sectors and the increase in food production.
According to the press service of the president, it was noted at the meeting that at present 25-30 percent of the seeds are imported from abroad, the rest is harvested by farmers. About 300 thousand tons of potatoes are imported into Uzbekistan annually, including 10-15 thousand tons of seed.
At the meeting, it was also stated that in the event of a pandemic, there should be no disruption in the supply of seeds.
