Scientists of the South Ural Research Institute of Horticulture and Potato Production UrFARC Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have registered a new potato variety Amulet in the State Register of Breeding Achievements, the press service of the center and the Agrobusiness magazine report.
A new variety of mid-season type - the harvest can be harvested in early August. Differs in large-fruitedness - the average weight of a tuber exceeds 150 grams, including in conditions of lack of moisture; good yield - up to 50 tons per hectare; excellent taste and presentation.
Potato Amulet has smooth oval tubers, yellow flesh, pink skin. A variety for table use, weakly boiled, therefore suitable for boiling and frying, starch content 14-16%, well stored.
The amulet is distinguished by high plasticity - it showed itself equally well in different conditions without loss of quality and productivity of the variety. When creating the variety, scientists made the main bet not only on the yield and weight of the tuber, but also on the excellent presentation.
“The amulet is little injured during mechanical cleaning. Today we are actively working on the issue of its in-vitro seed production,” said Vasily Dergilev, one of the authors of the variety, senior researcher at the South Ural Research Institute of Horticulture and Potato Growing, Ph.D.
Variety Amulet is resistant to potato nematode, late blight and Alternaria. Work on its creation lasted 15 years. During this time, the variety was studied in the Orenburg, Chelyabinsk regions, as well as in Bashkiria, Ufa and Udmurtia.
For three years, the State Variety Commission checked it for all the declared characteristics: ripening time, yield, disease resistance, size and taste of tubers, and many others, and recommended it for cultivation in the Ural region.
