Selling prices for onions began to decline this week.
According to key market players, at the moment only surpluses and onions of low quality, unsuitable for long-term storage, are on sale.
As a result, due to high humidity, problems with bacterial diseases were observed on a number of farms.
So, today farmers ship onions at 8-16 rubles / kg ($ 0,10-0,18 / kg), which is 15% cheaper on average than at the end of last week. Onion producers report a marked weakening in demand, while market supply continues to increase. The increase in supply is due to the desire of farmers to get rid of substandard onions.
At the same time, the demand for such products remains relatively low; such onions are mainly purchased by chains and resellers for current sales.
Today, onions in Russia are already on average 11% cheaper than in the same period last year. A number of producers have already reported that onions in storage have begun to deteriorate, and farmers intend to start selling their products from the beginning of November.
